Do you practice daiti-ryu yourself?

:icondadam5314:
No, I study Aikido so my teacher would talk about all the old masters of Japanese martial arts
:iconaikimoon:
Right, Ueshiba learned from Takeda. I only ask since I've practiced Daito-Ryu myself for about 3 years now.

:icondadam5314:
So I take it you really enjoy your studies?
:iconaikimoon:
Mostly. Apart from when Sensei decides I haven't had a big enough beating recently...then I get the shit kicked out of me big time.

I always wondered how different the training was between Daito Ryu and Aikido. My dad's karate sensei studied directly from one of Takeda's students, Yoshida Kotaro. So I always heard stories about how difficult training was.
:iconaikimoon:
You've no idea!! Aikido only covers about a quarter of what we do in Aiki. Everything is done pretty much at full contact and a large part of training is seeing how much punishment you can take. All techniques are done to three levels; restrain, incapacitate and kill. All black belts have to be registered with the police. Not for the faint hearted.

I'm glad that there are people who train with that intensity in order to preserve the spirit of the jutsu. A lot of the Aikidoka I've seen are much "softer" in nature. I think people get too caught up in the whole philosophical, world peace, love stuff Aikido preaches sometimes. BUt I think that Aikido and Aikijujutsu are both similar in technique but sometimes completely different in purpose. I don't know though.

" All black belts have to be registered with the police." that's a commonly tossed around myth. I practice Aikido myself and I have several friends in the class who are shodans and nidans and none of them have had to register themselves as "deadly weapons"
