There are hundreds of colors on the market that far exceed the quality of light that was previously available. Modern colors, the lightfast organic colors, are a very important addition to the artists repertoire but how does one pick from such a vast array? Should you buy each color? Should you have ten different yellows? Five different reds and so on? It all depends. I probably wouldn't buy every single paint tube out there simply because most paints are mixtures of the basic single pigment colors.
When it comes to color selection, there are many different palettes to choose from: old masters, impressionists, spectral, limited, dead, etc. I
